Money Savvy Tip: Supplements and Superfoods
Be Gone
By Monica D. Siembor
Health seekers shell out hundreds of dollars each month on vitamins, enzyme
tablets, superfoods, protein shakes, MSM powders, blue mangosteen, maca,
blue/green algae, and green powders. Into this ridiculous situation, I seek
to inject some sanity. You might as well throw your pocketbook out the window
if you continue to buy these nonsense products. Don’t be a moron,
concentrated rainbow-colored pills and gritty green swamp water aren’t
meant for human consumption.
Supplements and superfoods are a big money industry, and it’s all
about marketing hype. These vendors will “educate” you about
which vitamin, nutrient, weed, twig, or branch will cure any ailment from
which you suffer. Don’t buy into this mess of misinformation. They
want to convince you that their highly concentrated products are packed
with nutrition and that you need enormous amounts of vitamins and minerals
to survive. This claim is simply not true. In fact, most recommended daily
allowances for nutrients are highly overrated. There is no need to overload
our bodies with nutrients. Nature provides all of the nutrients we need
in exactly the proper amounts intendedd for us in tender fruits, vegetables,
and leafy greens.
We have some of the most nutrient rich soil in the world, so don’t
let these crafty salespeople tell you that our soil is depleted of nutrients
either. They’ll say you can’t get adequate nutrition from your
produce and that you need to supplement your diet. Think about it. If that’s
the case, which by far it isn’t, their products would be nutrient
deficient too as the ingredients to make them come from the same soil.
Let’s also examine what these products do to your body. Many of
these substances are either synthetic or highly concentrated forms of plant
foods. Your body does not recognize many of these substances as food, and
they tax the liver as it tries to process them. These products are also
highly concentrated and dehydrated, so they can cause severe imbalances.
Whole raw foods are nutrient rich and perfectly balanced. You need nothing
more.
If you maintain a low-fat raw vegan diet and are emotionally and physically
fit, you should be adequately nourished. Many vegans are concerned about
getting enough vitamin B12. As long as you do not destroy your intestinal
flora with antibiotics, medications, intestinal cleanses, colonics, acid
foods, or overeating, B12 should not be a concern.
So trash those bottles, jars, and containers. In the garbage. Bye, bye.
Save your hard earned money for more fruits, veggies, and leafy greens.
